Traditional wooden boat building in Portsoy

Community at the Heart of The Boatshed

Working together to build traditional wooden boats and keep heritage skills alive.

Community at the Heart of The Boatshed

The Boatshed is more than a workshop; it's a place where people of all ages come together to learn new skills, share knowledge and create something meaningful, open to the whole community.

Case study: Portsoy Coastal Rowing Club - working with local rowers, the Boatshed helped build two St Ayles Skiffs, Soy Quine and Soy Loon, giving rise to the Portsoy Skiffettes and Skiffers crews.

Case study: Soy Lady - funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, volunteers with no previous boatbuilding experience built a traditional 26ft wooden salmon coble, launched in the Old Harbour and named Soy Lady in 2016.
